1. Don’t assume the battery is fully charged when you get it

It may be possible that when you buy your brand new Radio Controlled Model Boat that it rolls off the production line and then immediately gets shipped straight to your door, however it is far more likely that it’s been sitting in storage for a few months before you decide to order it and it gets shipped out to you.

That means that there’s a very high likelihood that your battery while fully charged at the factory won’t be at 100% capacity when it gets to you.

2. Completely discharge your battery and fully recharge it three times before use

This is possibly the biggest thing you can do to improve your Ni-CD battery life. While modern batteries are no longer subject to “memory” problems (where a battery would get used to being at a certain capacity and act as if that was the maximum), they are still susceptible to bad discharge/recharge practices.

The latest batteries have circuits that help with internal calibration, so by doing a few full discharge-recharge cycles you allow the internal calibration to be most accurate. This way your battery will always report its true state of capacity to your electronics product.

3. Keep it away from extreme temperatures

Putting it simply – avoid extremes in temperature. Large temperature variances can greatly affect the long term viability of your battery and make it harder for your RC Boat to function properly.

4. Use your new battery regularly

Use your RC Boat regularly! That will keep you happy and healthy and it will also keep your battery in the same condition. Allowing your battery to sit for too long without using it will diminish its ability to hold a charge.

Follow these simple battery prolonging tips to get the most out of your new Electric RC Boat – there’s nothing worse than a great RC Boat with a flat battery!
